In addition to standard M "percent" utilities, GT.M permits the use of the standard VMS file manipulation tools, e.g., the DIFFERENCE, SEARCH, COPY, and RENAME commands. The GT.M programmer can also use the powerful facilities provided by the RMS directory structure, file protection codes, and backup version numbers.

GT.M programs are compatible with most configuration management software, for example, Hewlett-Packard's Code Management System (CMS).
